Johannes Reich (1894 - 1940)

Johannes Reich was born in Jena on November 17, 1894, the son of the worker Hermann Reich. He started school at the age of eight and trained as a gardener after graduating. He later worked in the Jena Botanical Gardens and in the Charlottenburg park administration near Berlin before his wanderings took him back to Jena. Here he worked in the cemetery administration and as a private gardener.

In March 1921, Reich was admitted to the university mental hospital, presumably due to disputes in the cemetery administration. This was followed by a stay in the Blankenhain state sanatorium.

Johannes Reich became a victim of "Aktion T4". On September 23, 1940, he was first transferred to the Zschadraß intermediate asylum and shortly afterwards to the Pirna-Sonnenstein killing center, where he was murdered on November 27, 1940.

A Stumbling Stone for Johannes Reich was placed in front of Otto-Schott-Straße 44 on 21.09.2022 (initiative of the Working Group Speaking Past).
