Margarete Peinert (1887 - 1940)

Margarete Peinert was born on December 29, 1887 in Langenweddingen in what is now the district of Börde (Saxony-Anhalt) as the daughter of the musician and actor Julius Peinert and his wife Hedwig. His father was involved in small traveling theaters for many years and became a member of the veterans' association in Jena after taking part in the 1870/71 war. Due to his small veteran's allowance, the family lived in poor circumstances and was dependent on welfare support, also for their sick daughter Margarete. From 1913, the family lived in cramped conditions at Mittelstraße 33 with Margarete's only brother Hans, who was a musician and looked after his parents and sister.

After the death of their father, the family left Jena in 1917. Hans Peinert, most recently concertmaster of the Jena city orchestra, was engaged by the orchestra in Elberfeld-Barmen in 1919. In the same year, Margarete was admitted to the Carl-Friedrich-Hospital, which later became the Blankenhain State Sanatorium. She was transferred to Pirna-Sonnenstein in 1940 as part of the "T4" murder of the sick and murdered there on November 27 of the same year.

A Stumbling Stone for Margarete Peinert was placed in front of Mittelstraße 33 on 21.09.2022 (initiative of the Working Group Speaking Past).
